PGD2 (prostaglandin D2) RIA kit

Intended Use:

Like other prostaglandins, PGD2 is formed from prostaglandin endoperoxides which are produced from arachidonic acid on the action of cyclooxygenase enzyme. PGD2 has various biological actions, e.g. decreases thrombocyte aggregation, it is a potent broncho-constrictor in dog, it has a potenciating effect on the inflammatory response to histamine, it increases the chemotactic activity of eosinophil granulocytes, etc. One of its prominent functions seems to be its suggested role as a neuromodulator in the central nervous system. PGD2 was also reported to have a significantly lower concentration in a highly metastatic mouse melanoma cell line than in a less metastatic one. On this basis PGD2 was suggested to decrease tumor metastasis and progression. Later its direct inhibitory action on malignant tumour cell proliferation was proved in various cell lines. The instability of PGD2 may account for the difficulties encountered in the course of its radioimmunological determination, including the problems with the production of specific antisera with proper binding ability as well as the low sensitivity of assay.
